Things are slowly but surely moving along in the process of getting this new franchise up and running. Since we had previously suggested hosting the Franchisee’s QuickBooks data files with a company that is already authorized to host, we setup meetings with 3 different hosting companies. When Alicia first spoke with the hosting companies they were only able to give ball-park pricing as they did not know the specs of the program that would be accessing QuickBooks. This could change the pricing based on how it will connect. The goal of these meetings was for the programmer that is going to be building the custom dashboard to speak directly with the hosting companies to find out exactly how it needs to be written to work with hosted QuickBooks.
The first meeting was with Bob from Uni-data. We had about an hour discussion and accomplished a few tasks. We were able to find out that they can host the Canadian version of QB as well as the US. They will also host Microsoft Office for the Franchisee’s if necessary. One of the main issues that the programmer for the Franchisor is having is that although he is familiar with the front end of QuickBooks, he was looking for the data structure for the back end that he will be writing too. Although Uni-data was unable to provide this information, they put us in touch with the Intuit QuickBooks Senior Sales Engineer who was able to provide some useful information for the programmer.
After the meeting with Uni-data, the Franchisor was very happy with them and decided to cancel the meetings with the two other hosting companies that they were set to speak with! Since Uni-data is local to us (Flushing) the next step will probably be to organize a face to face meeting once the programmer has some more information about his own program. As always, we will keep you posted!
